Dave Clark

Dave Clark

One excellent rock drummer you neglected is Simon Kirke of Free and Bad Co. He laid down a solid back beat and with Boz Burrell on bass they formed a great rhythm section.

Ringo Starr has to be the most underrated rock drummer in the world. I was very happy to see him place so high (number 13) on your list. His playing in The Beatles was simple but it was just what the songs needed.

Also Phil Rudd of AC/DC must be included on this list. Very powerful drummer. Finally Dave Clark of The Dave Clark Five just tremendous. Listen to those songs from the 60's, they will you knock you out.

Dave Clark NEW
by: Anonymous

I have been playing the drums now for 47 years. Dave Clark is the guy who got me to start playing. From him, I had various drummers that caught my attention: Buddy Rich, Dino Danelli, Keith Moon, Bob George, Jimmy Bralower, Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Louie Bellson, Clive Bunker, Mike Giles, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Barry Altschul Jim Langlois, Virgil Donati, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, and my all time favorite, Simon Phillips. I got razzed so many times as a kid from guys telling me it wasn't Dave on the drums, and I never believed them. If you go back and watch Ringo with the Beatles, he's right spot on and nailing it. Dave on TV, looks awkward as did Mike Clark and other American drummers back then. I found out that any band that Phil Spector produced, he used his house band The Wrecking crew with drummer Hal Blaine. So on a Beach Boys album you're hearing him, not Dennis Wilson. I have been in touch with the man who actually played on DC5 Albums: Bobby Graham - the Hal Blaine of English Rock during the 60's. I still love them. Dave too. And Mike Smith, one of the best vocalists in Rock music. Look up DC5 "On Broadway" off "The Dave Clark 5 Returns" and just listen to that voice. And here's the real killer. While the DC5 was my favorite group as a young teen: I saw them 5 times, and found out that Jack L. Green, their American representative lived in the house right behind mine in Roslyn New York. Go figure.
