My last drum kit was a big, Black finish Tama 9-piece double bass drum kit from the 1980's (similar to this one).
I was a drummer when I was was younger, and I gave it up (regrettably) when the last band I was in broke up, back in 1992. My single most greatest influence, the reason why I picked up the sticks at age six was Buddy Rich!
Here was a man that knew what he wanted out of his playing style and used every iota of his personality to get it.
A little aggressive and overbearing at times, his personality, but the results speak for themselves. Gene Krupa on steroids, with a zest for hitting the high note everytime he played, this man had pizzaz and style.
The tiger of the Jazz genre. Quite simply, HE KICKED ASS! In everything he did! If I could be just one quarter or one eighth the drummer that he was, I'd be happy for eternity!
Who knows, I may get back to playing again one day. If I do, It'll probably be because I was re-inspired by Buddy Rich!!!!!
