Former Professional Jazz Drummer
(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma)
Pearl Forum Series
I've played professionally as a jazz drummer (classically trianed as a percussionist and self taught on the set) primarily and had retired from drumming.
In recent years, my wife purchased me a pearl forum kit which is presently discontinued. I have it sounding great, as good as any professional set I've played, and I've played a few.
Of course, I have good hardware and cymbals. And, I'm using the original heads from Pearl that came with the set. The only exception is the snare drum, which I tune relatively tight, but it has a great feel for jazz; big band or small group.
I don't over muffle (use a piece of felt for the bass drum, minimal moon gel on the floor tom) and maybe one piece on occasion on my heaviest mounted tom.
It's musical, warm and extremely professional sounding...all for a very cheap price! I still gig from time to time and its ready to go!
